Hey peeps

What nice weather it's been!!! Today it's 29 out but stormy.  I just got back from Tims and Chapters where I went with Peanut and Marleen. We had fun looking at art books and stuff. It really wasn't a long enough stay for me.  I could hang in Chapters all day.  I drank the second ice cap of my life and now I am buzzed.  I am psyched up for the math exam tomorrow morning! This is going to be exciting.  Whatever am I going to do after school is over??? I won't have a social life! I won't have any rigid schedule to follow! What will become of me! Woe is me! I am now regretting the fact that I haven't read a single novel since September. My favorite genre of literature has been replaced by textbooks and the like.  I am planning on reading a few good novels over the summer (at least one a month)  does anyone have a good reccomendation for me?  Here are my favorite genres: Historical fiction, fantasy, biography, any old classics (Jane Austen, Dickens, Dumas, Arthurian legends, etc). Before I die, I want to make sure I've read every classic book.  Here are a few of my faves: Little Women, Robin Hood, Le Petit Dauphin, The Secret Garden, Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia, a large collection of Arthurian Legends, Julie of the Wolves, White Fang, Black Beauty, The Inheritance (by Louisa May Alcott), The Anne series, anything else by L.M. Montgomery,

Books I want to read this summer: Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass, some Madeleine L'Engle, Treasure Island, The Time Machine, The Man in the Iron Mask, etc. Farewell!

Hm....  I have similar problems in my summer reading schedule, and I have so many books that I can't decide which ones to read anymore.  You might like to consider getting a summer job as well.  Hm again.  Good luck on your math exam.

You might consider Sun Tzu's "The Art of War."  That's an interesting classic.  Allegedly it has many applications in today's world, though I think you might like to check it out for yourself before you take my word for it.   :)  That reminds me of LeVar[sp] Burton in Reading Rainbow.  Geordi LaForge by day, LeVar the bookworm by night!

hey elise, hopefully you live a long life because that sure is a long list of books to read, plus all the school text books. *whew* Oh and I nearly fell off my chair laughing, no at you per say but at the fact that you got a "buzz" from an iced cap. Did you by any chance mistaken Starbucks for Tim Hortons? When you go work at the camp this summer you will have a social life of a different kind, don't worry, most University students go through a sort of social life withdrawl over the summer, thank goodness for cars!

Anyways, I love you a lot and we have to jam....wanna do that tomorrow afternoon?hmmmm...I will email you

Oh by the way, guys that math exam was a JOKE!!! It took me the full 3 hours to do, but only  because I had time to double check my calculations... I had no trouble at all!!! YAY!  And my philosophy exam was by far the easiest.  This school needs more Strausses. I'm glad he bases his evaluation on more realistic grading policies...like in-class stuff, assignments, group work, etc. Exams really don't tell half of what kind of student you are the other 99.9% of the semester!!! Love ya'll!

Even though I am very skeptical about the utility of exams in the evaluation of learning, I do regret that exam having been so easy. It was even easier than I imagined. I should have included a big think question, worth very little marks, but allowing for long, rambling answers. Ah, well.

You say you like Jane Austen. Have you read all her completed novels? This past year has been "Jane Austen year" for my daughters Shimmer (http://www.shimmerpoet.blogspot.com/) and Summer (http://www.permanenttattoo.blogspot.com/), and they have enjoyed her novels immensely.

I am recommending the books of Alan Furst (http://www.newcriterion.com/archive/22/mar04/furst.htm and http://www.identitytheory.com/people/birnbaum9.html) to everyone I know, but you may find them a little too dark for your taste ...

Hey again.  It's me blabbing off my opinions again both to you, Elise and to Strauss.  It would be cool to write a philosophy exam where you got a big think question like that.  I am good at rambling and occasionally hit on a good idea.

Sorry I forgot about your camp job, Elise.  Hope you have fun.  Camp counselling is one of the most entertaining and rewarding jobs out there.  It's where I get most of my wacky stories.  If you are into story writing, maybe you will get a few ideas for some fun stories to write over the summer.  If the kids want you to tell them a story and you are at a loss for new stories, try telling them a story about a sixteen-legged cow you used to know a few thousand years ago, when you were their age.  I have used that story many times and it works like a charm.
